IVF Athens Center pioneers again and provides the possibility of a new method for the diagnosis of tubal patency, after taking a detailed medical history.
Historically, Hysterosalpingography (HSG) has been the first line’s examination for the investigation of female fertility/infertility. A new method has been recently proposed as an alternative to HSG, which is Hysterosalpingo Foam Sonography (HyFoSy).
The technique is performed in the office with a simple transvaginal ultrasound and takes less than 10 minutes. In a randomized controlled trial it was found to be less painful than HSG, there is no risk of allergy due to the nature of the contrast agent used, there is no radiation (as happens with the traditional HSG) while there are additional evidences that this agent (the foam used for injection) can improve women’s chances of achieving spontaneous conception on the same cycle. New evidence by the years have confirmed the first published data but of course future studies can reach clearer and safer conclusions.
